Online Clipboard Guide

This guide explains the online clipboard from start to finish: what it does, how to set it up on your first two devices, how the syncing actually behaves, and how to fix the connection problems people run into. You do not need to read everything — jump to the section that matches your question.

What this tool is

Online Clipboard keeps one current piece of text in a shared web space. Any browser you connect can read it, replace it, or clear it. There is no account, no install, and no configuration beyond connecting a device once with a 6-character code. The product's promise is simple: save once, copy anytime.

Setting up your first clipboard

  1. Open the home page on the device that already has the text.
  2. Paste the text and press Save. The page now shows your clipboard code.
  3. Open the home page on your second device.
  4. Type the code under Enter clipboard code and press Connect.
  5. Copy the text where you need it, or edit it and save again.

That is the whole setup. The code step never needs to be repeated on a device that has already connected.

How automatic reconnection works

When you connect a device, the site stores a device identifier in its database and links it to the clipboard. On later visits the page recognizes that identifier and loads the clipboard without asking for the code. This is what makes the tool feel persistent: your phone and computer remember which clipboard belongs to them.

How syncing works

Connected pages check for changes about every 1.5 seconds. When you save text on your phone, your computer usually shows it within a couple of seconds. Sync is two-way: both devices can edit the same clipboard, and the rule is last-write-wins. If you are typing unsaved text, incoming changes never overwrite your draft — the page keeps your local text until you save, and only then does your version become the current one.

Copy, Clear, and the code controls

Connecting a device that is already linked elsewhere

If a device saved text before, it may already be linked to its own clipboard. Connecting it to a different code returns a clear error instead of silently moving it. To switch: press Cancel link on that device, then enter the code of the clipboard you actually want. The old clipboard remains intact; only the connection is removed.

Privacy and security basics

Clipboard content is only reachable by devices that know the 6-character code. There are no accounts, so there are no stolen-password risks of the usual kind — but the code is the whole protection. Do not post codes publicly, use New code after sharing a link too widely, and never put passwords, card numbers, or other sensitive information into a clipboard. Shared links such as online-clipboard.click/code are public read-only pages, and clipboard text is not end-to-end encrypted.

Troubleshooting common problems

The code is not accepted

Codes use six characters from 0-9 and a-z. Check for extra spaces, and confirm you are typing on the device that is not connected yet.

The other device shows an old code

The clipboard owner replaced the code with New code. Ask for the current code, or on the affected device press Cancel link and connect again.

Changes do not appear

Wait two seconds for the next sync and refresh the page. If the page shows Connection issue, check your internet access and reload.

I connected the wrong device

Press Cancel link on that device. The clipboard and its other connections are unaffected.

My text disappeared

Another connected device cleared it, or new text was saved over it. The clipboard stores only the current text — it has no history.

Supported devices and browsers

Any modern browser works: Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Safari on phones, tablets, and computers. JavaScript must be enabled because the page uses it to identify your device and to poll for changes. Older browsers without JavaScript support can still open shared clipboard links, but pairing and live sync require a current browser.
