Clipboard Between Devices
A clipboard between devices is a single shared text space that more than one of your devices can open. You save text once and read or edit it later from your phone, computer, or tablet. There is no app to install, no account to create, and no cable or USB stick involved.
The clipboard is identified by a short 6-character code. You create the clipboard on one device, connect your other device with the code, and from then on both devices are linked to the same text. This guide explains how to set that up and what to expect after the first connection.
What a shared clipboard is
Every phone, tablet, and computer has its own built-in clipboard that only works while the device is on. A shared online clipboard replaces that one-device memory with a text space on the web. When you copy text on your phone, it does not automatically enter your computer's clipboard — you save it into the shared clipboard, and your other connected devices can copy it out.
This is different from manufacturer sync features such as Apple's Universal Clipboard or Microsoft's Phone Link, which work only inside one brand's ecosystem. An online clipboard works on any device with a browser, which makes it useful when your phone and computer are from different brands.
How to set up a clipboard between devices
- Open the online clipboard on the device where the text already is.
- Paste your text and press Save to create the clipboard.
- Copy the 6-character code shown on the screen.
- Open the same page on your second device, type the code, and press Connect.
- Copy or edit the text from either device. Changes sync both ways.
Both devices are now bound to the same clipboard. Each device is remembered, so you do not repeat the code step on every visit.
Phone to computer
You are on the go and your phone has the text: an address, a link, a note, or a code snippet. Open the clipboard on your phone, save the text, and later open the same clipboard on your computer. Your computer is already connected from a previous session, so the content loads automatically and you can copy it into any desktop app.
Computer to phone
The same clipboard works in reverse. Save text on your computer before you leave your desk. When you open the page on your phone, the text is there. This is convenient for carrying a link you want to read, a number you need to call, or a note you plan to act on away from the computer.
What stays the same after the first connection
- Devices reconnect automatically when they open the page again.
- Both devices see edits made on the other device within one or two seconds.
- Copy and Clear work from either device.
- If one device clears the clipboard, the other device shows the empty text.
Changing the code and removing a device
Two controls help you keep the clipboard under your control. The New code button replaces the current 6-character code and disables the old one — use it when you shared a link publicly and no longer want it to work. The Cancel link button disconnects the current device from the clipboard, which is useful when a device was connected to the wrong clipboard and you need to join a different one.
When you cancel a link, only that device is disconnected. The clipboard itself and its other devices are untouched.
Troubleshooting a clipboard between devices
- Code not found: check that you typed six characters from 0-9 and a-z, and confirm which device created the clipboard.
- Already connected to another clipboard: press Cancel link on that device, then enter the code you actually want.
- Device does not show the latest text: wait two seconds for the next sync, or refresh the page.
- Old code stopped working: the clipboard owner replaced the code with a new one; ask for the current code.
Is a shared clipboard secure?
The clipboard is not tied to your name or email, and there is no account to break into. Access is controlled by the code, devices are bound per browser, and the code can be replaced at any time. Still, the code is the only key, so treat it the way you treat a shared link: do not post it publicly, and never store passwords, card numbers, or other sensitive text in the clipboard.

One clipboard, many pairs of devices
You can connect more than two devices to the same clipboard. For example, you might pair a personal phone with a work laptop and a home tablet, so a note saved on the phone is available on both larger screens. Every connected device edits the same text, and every saved change is seen by the other devices. The product is deliberately limited to one shared text space per clipboard, which keeps it predictable: there is no history list to dig through, only the current saved text.
This works well for a household or for one person's own devices. It is not a collaboration tool for many people at once — it is a simple bridge between the screens you use every day.
